8thNov: Travel & Food >> Mont Kiara Solaris,Selangor

I went for Bali food since it was introduce by my friend. @ Mont Kiara Solaris have a lot restaurants, cafes, bars and food outlets but giving me a headache to find what to fill my tummy.
This Bali restaurant have quiet a delightful dishes, more like not too spicy and quiet big portion for all the dishes we order.

It was quiet a nice place to dine, waiters are friendly and food are just average and nice.

8thNov: Travel & Food >> Crystal crown, PJ,Selangor

Crystal Crown Hotel at Petaling Jaya, Selangor is where I camp over night there. It was an affordable place, now down to the breakfast tasting. I took a little bit of this and alittle bit of that.

As you can see there's fried popia, egg toast bread, nasi lemak, roti jalar with some chicken curry, hash brown, cocktail sausages and some stew chicken curry. The Fried popia was so so, not really like it. That goes for the hash brown which is quiet cold inside. The sambal on the nasi lemak was nice quiet alot flavour going on there when you mix with the stew chicken curry and nasi lemak to eat with. It's a well balance mix between those 3 items.
Roti jalar with the different chicken curry, it was mild and the roti jalar was a bit cold
but it was nice wtih the chicken curry. The cocktail sausage was also nice but I keep some for after I finish the rest and go back to a few last pieces of the cocktail sausages, it was not nice anymore due there's like watery or oil starts to cover around it.
This was the extras I found later on, Dim Sum at the cafeteria. I can say
this is even worst, maybe it was too long inside the stimer which produce alot water within it.

7thNov: Travel & Food >> PJ,Selangor

Was in Petaling Jaya for some training on my new job.
It was kinda late dinner around 9pm, I went out with my relatives and had some late dinner due to the jam I got stuck during on my arrival from Penang to KL.

Went to Jaya33 and found one outlet, forgot the name of the outlet already. So, I order Pineapple Fried Rice (Thai Style). When it arrived, amazingly it came with an actual pineapple as a pot for the rice.

It presentation looks simple and nice with the pineapple but it all goes down to the tasting.
The rice was right, not too hard or soft for the fried style. It was moderate to my taste bud, don't have the Thai style taste. The rice was fried up to it's right yellow color but it dosen't have the Thai seasoning.

This is the 2nd dish I order extra cause I saw it in the menu and wanted to test it out.
As you can see again it come with a pastry bowl that look like a coconut. It's not a coconut, it actually bread for the curry that it was containing in it.

It's Chicken Curry in a Coconut, well the coconut is the bread and it's the best I had until now.
The curry was spicy, yes it is ... and very nice texture and a lot those nice curry flavors mixing up well with the spiciness of the curry. The chicken meat was tender and go well with the curry.

It have a nice sour taste at the end when you taste the curry. Lucky I order this as an extra, my aunt order something which takes 45min to arrived but it's not about the cooking, it's the bad services. Well the Curry Chicken in a Coconut is the only one thing is nice there beside the services.

TGI Fridays: Thank Good food Is Fridays

Halloween again..... Thank Good food Is Friday, lol. I was walking along Queen's Bay looking for food on a lovely but tired Friday. Queen's Bay have many food outlets but some are too boring to walk in or a bit pricey on the style of the meal. I swear to God that for my entire life I haven't walk into TGI Fridays before, ever since it's open. So there was a 2 course meal set, any 1 appetizer and 1 entree @ RM 29.90 ++..
For appetizers, I got a plate of Boneless Wings. It was nice and tender as i give it a bite in. come by the side is some sort of Tartar sauce. Don't really like the sauce.
2nd appetizer, Mac & Cheese. Very hot and crispy this was better then the Boneless Wings. It was quite nice with the hot cheesy cheese melts in your mouth. To my amazed it was cold or warn outside the crispy surface but when u cut open inside it 's reveal it's nice smell of melt cheese.

I order the Southwest Adobo Chicken, according to the menu that this was stated: "Roasted half-chicken seasoned with lemon, garlic, cilantro and herb rub." It was well season and balance. "Roasted half-chicken" !, my God! and you won't believe their half-chicken like. It's huge, really it's big. after trying my best to finish the half-chicken I was totally full and can't go for others anymore. the sweet potatoes was the turn down of this dish due to it's kinda cold on the plate.
This is the famous Shanghai Chicken Salad, nice vibrant color to it's food to make it quiet appetizing. I had some and felt it's kinda fresh for the vegetables when it's in my mouth. The chicken was a bit dry but lucky it was not burn. With some nice tangerine syrup mix with it, you get the feel of sweetness. The funny thing was it's missing 1 key ingredient, ITALIAN DRESSING and you change this dish to Caesar's Salad. lol
Well, you guys can get your self to TGI Fridays and enjoy a nice moments there. For any more info can access to this site.

Gelato @ Maxim

Gelato, or the plural gelati, is Italy's regional variant of ice cream. As such, gelato is made with some of the same ingredients as most ice-creams around the world; milk (and cream), sugar (and other sweeteners), flavorings (fruits, nuts, essences, etc.) and air are the main ingredients. Unlike many types of ice cream, gelato often does not contain eggs. Other ingredients that stabilize or emulsify may be used to improve the shelf life of the product. Gelato can be made using the hot process, which includes pasteurization, or the cold process, which doesn't require pasteurization. Both processes require a gelato batch freezer, which makes the end product by mixing the ingredients and incorporating air. Like high-end ice cream, gelato generally has less than 55% air, resulting in a denser product. - Wikipedia 2009

Came across the area of Pulau Tikus, just passing around for some craving for some light food. So I saw a Maxim Bakery, thought of some bread or something but went inside and found gelato which have many various flavour to choose from. quiet a reasonable price and it have a very chilly aroma taste. Quiet nice and many flavour to choose, some are not for small kids.
Well, for those who like ice creme can go try this new gelato for an experience you never tasted before.

17thOct: Travel & Food >> Ipoh, Perak

Taking a break time from my stress time and head out of Penang for some food. Best next door neighbor to Penang is Perak, well know for their Chinese tradition biscuits, white coffee, Steam White Chicken, Salted Chicken and many more.
But when I arrived there, I was introduce to this mee. It's called PAN MEE, you can order it dry or with soup. The dry Pan Mee was up to my liking compare to the soup one. Nice texture, smell appetizing and for the price you pay for is very worth it. Into the taste, very nice favourable taste, not so top notch but it's good. Not over salty among other flavour. The Pan Mee also have those crunchy feel of one kind ingredients that like crackers in it. Not so oily also.

The next one I order by accident cause I though their spring roll will be like very small/medium size but it look to me that I was wrong about it. I order 2 rolls and to my surprise it was kinda big and quiet value for you $$.

Nice smell of the fresh vegetables inside the spring rolls, Was quiet hot when I have it in my mouth and the aroma was appetizing with the many flavour bursting inside my mouth. The ingredients were well balance and it was a nice feeling eating it. Shockingly, inside the spring rolls have those crunchy crackers also. It's kinda nice, you need try it for your self.

I also order some local Ipoh kuih-muih for desserts. There's the black sesame seed kuih which is nice but a bit sweet for me. The noodle cake that looks like the Yam Rice cake, which is a bit disappointing due to it's really tasteless. As for the pastery you see there in the picture, it is a compact chicken pie which have quiet many flavour taste out from the inside ingredients. The chicken pie is the most tasty item among all and it's kinda very full after eating it by it self .
Well the journey for food in Ipoh was a rush and it is all done within 1 day. Oh..the place to try out this delight is just directly off the Highway, you need to cut into Ipoh throught the way to Jusco and Tesco. The kopitiam is located at teh row of shop lots directly behind Petronas station.

Long long wait...

July till October were the most down time for me, time was hard and didn't had enough time to accomplish everything that I have in mind.

I'm at a well condition at the moment, not really good yet. Lucky for new people I meet have enlighten me more on whats to learn out from. Well, enough of me..lets get back to "FOOD!!" ..
Here's a catch, this happen during my work at my previous place where there no right time for lunch. So as my co-worker wanted to go out and "tah pau" some food back, I have requested for the same Mee Goreng that he had yesterday and it seems quiet appetizing to me.

The wait was on while the clock past 30 min after he left the company area to go buy the food.
After 45 min, he came back with both hands carrying full of baggage of foods and drinks. Well, it was nice of him to "tah pau" for us all.
When I got my Mee Goreng, it was a shock to every one that the size and portion was amazing huge for 1 person like me to eat it all even if I'm starving to death, I wont be able to finish. So I share with my another friend. To my amazed sometime if the portion at that size wont be able to taste any good or tasteless to me cause expected it will be simply done without any care to the indigents.
It was just nice as the taste was spread through out the portions. Nice light and not too over powering taste. The chillies was just at the right spiciness to my liking.
Well, that was the one and only odd but nice taste Mee Goreng I came across to. The nasi kandar shop that sell this Mee Goreng is located at Bukit Jambul Complex area, direct opposite the main doors of Bukit Jambul Complex at Bayan Baru.

Wine~Wine~Wine

Nathalie DE PAYS D'OU 2000, for 9 years keep in serve. Took it out
for a try, the bottle was really cover with dust. So I put it into the sink with water to slowly
wash it and let the cool water chill the bottle for a while. It may not be the right way to clean it but I did it in this way so that I avoid using warm water, scare it will warm the wine.

Trying to screw the cork out but it broke 1/2 way so my friend did another way by pushing the cork into the bottle and use a filter to filter the cork out while pouring into the glasses.

Very strong after taste, nice and mild-bold. Will be nice with some meat dishes; beef, pork or lamb. It was at the right time, to open the bottle. I felt if I keep it a little longer; it will turn bad and what a waste .....right?

Breakfast, Important Meal

Breakfast is the first meal of the day. The word derives from breaking the fast after one has not eaten since the night before. It is widely referred to as the most important meal of the day.Breakfast usually consists of foods that are high in energy content.

Mostly many people wake up late in the morning and they don't really take any breakfast. Skipping breakfast to lunch is not quiet a smart idea cause usually heavy lunch can make the body feel tired and most of the time a lot people go for fast lunch . Which is more bad for health, usually fast lunch may consist like fast food, fried food, too much oil food and a lot high salt and sugar.

The best and easy breakfast to make at home will be the "sandwich" which is much faster and easy to prepare. Here are some simple ingredients for basic sandwiches;

  • Peanut Butter
  • Fruit Jam ( Less Sugar )
  • Cheese
  • Cheese Spreader
For heavy sandwiches ingredients;
  • Tuna
  • Sardines
  • Salami / Hams
  • Sausages
  • Burger / Bacon
  • Shredded Chicken Meat
  • Salads / Potato
( From Wikipedia)>> Bread has been eaten with other food since its creation in Neolithic times. For example, the ancient Jewish sage Hillel the Elder is said to have wrapped meat from the Paschal lamb and bitter herbs in a matzah (or flat, unleavened bread) during Passover,[3] but the concept of a sandwich (as opposed to a wrap) is more recent. During the Middle Ages, thick slabs of coarse and usually stale bread, called "trenchers", were used as plates. After a meal, the food-soaked trencher was fed to a dog or to beggars, or eaten by the diner. Trenchers were as much the harbingers of open-face sandwiches[4] as they were of disposable dishware. The immediate cultural precursor with a direct connection to the English sandwich was to be found in the Netherlands of the 17th century, where the naturalist John Ray observed[5] that in the taverns beef hung from the rafters "which they cut into thin slices and eat with bread and butter laying the slices upon the butter"— explanatory specifications that reveal the Dutch belegde broodje was as yet unfamiliar in England.

If it was initially perceived as food men shared while gaming and drinking at night, the sandwich slowly began appearing in polite society as a late-night meal among the aristocracy. The sandwich's popularity in Spain and England increased dramatically during the 19th century, when the rise of an industrial society and the working classes made fast, portable, and inexpensive meals essential.[6]

It was at the same time that the sandwich finally began to appear outside of Europe. In the United States, the sandwich was first promoted as an elaborate meal at supper. By the early 20th century, as bread became a staple of the American diet, the sandwich became the same kind of popular, quick meal as was widespread in the Mediterranean.[6]

Penang Bon Odori 2009

Obon (お盆?) or just Bon (?) is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the departed (deceased) spirits of one's ancestors. This Buddhist custom has evolved into a family reunion holiday during which people return to ancestral family places and visit and clean their ancestors' graves, and when the spirits of ancestors are supposed to revisit the household altars. Also called the Feast of Lanterns, it has been celebrated in Japan for more than 500 years and traditionally includes a dance, known as Bon-Odori. ( from Wikipedia* )
Penang Bon Odori 2009 kicks off with a blast. Swamp with 100 overs people from many cultures attend to this beautiful Japanese festival. It's also one of my 1st time after leaving my ex company and I have more time for myself to attend such events.

You may think Hollywood may have the most paparazzi, but think again at this Penang Bon Odori 2009. I felt about 60%-75% of the people attend to this event have camares range from handphone cameras to professional digital SLR. A lot of new and well organized lots with things to play, buy, eat, drink and experiences of this special culture.

There so many people and the crowd was pack and very hard to move around so i didnt get a chance to take some pictures of the food and drinks. But I did get a fast look at everything from far, but most of the food I see were mostly all either from Hotel cathering or normal deep fried food and normal local Penang drinks.

The event kicks off with the drums performances and a traditional Japanese Sakura dance by the Penang Japanese Association.

Also getting along are the childrens in their Kimono, very charming and cute.
There are other people also wear their Kimono and some Japanese people from Penang also
brought their family to there and set up a picnic set there. A lot people getting along well especially photographers which I meet about 10 - 25 friends and many happy faces there enjoying the festival with their friends and family.

The night end with a beautiful display of fireworks which I dotn ahev the camera gear to take the photos. Next year I will be involved the Penang Bon Odori
if I can.
